Namibia: much more than a simple safari.

What is it that makes Namibia such a special destination?

Located in southeastern Africa, Namibia has borders with Angola and Zambia to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south. This fact, together with its almost 825,000 sqkm and 1,700 km of Atlantic coast, is what defines Namibia as a hunting and fishing paradise. Beyond that, Namibia has a total population of approximately 2.5 million people, which in other words means that the chances of political or internal conflicts are very low and is the reason why Namibia today, is one of the most stable countries in Africa.

In terms of hunting, Namibia’s concept is similar to what you could find in South Africa. The variety of game species is rich, prevailing first class accommodations with amazing lodges perfect to travel with the whole family, and in general terms, a plains game safari is accomplished in a very relaxed way and provides plenty of enjoyment to everyone involved.

Additionally, for those looking to push it to another level, Namibia is also a reference when it comes to leopard hunting -with a more than reasonable success rate-. Up in the northeastern part of the country we find the Caprivi, where we have access to one of the continent’s most amazing concessions. There, you can hunt for elephant, buffalo, crocodile, hippo and many other species in very favourable conditions in comparison to other destinations offering similar safari possibilities. This is something that not everybody knows about Namibia, which is definitely very unique.

Finally, the variety of tourism activities that Namibia holds is so wide that it invites everyone to combine a few days of hunting with some traveling around and discovering the many secret places that this incredible country has to offer. This is exactly what the Zuñiga family did. From Camino Real Hunting Consultants, we would like to thank them because despite having to postpone their trip due to covid a year ago, this great family was able to tackle all the vicissitudes along the way and ended up having a once in a lifetime experience with us.

Finally in Namibia!

Out of the many international hunts that we have been honoured to organize outside our borders this season, this has probably been the one in which we have encountered more obstacles along the way. The fact of having to postpone the safari last year was nothing in comparison to being forced to reschedule the flights two times and another one being cancelled within a couple of weeks before departure, or that Namibia threatened to close its borders again a few days before arrival! Juanjo and Rocio had been planning this trip with us for more than a year’s time and it was indeed a very special safari as they would be traveling with their 5 children aged between 10 and 21 years old.

Luckily, our Namibian representatives confirmed -once again- that there was NO chance that the government would close borders again and that everything was working 100% normal for tourists. With not much time to think about any longer, off they went! Juanjo, Rocio and their 5 children took off from Madrid and arrived in Windhoek the next day, early morning. Welcome to Namibia, welcome to paradise!

Hunting with your family, what a privilege that is!

When you travel to the other side of the world on a hunting trip to a place like Namibia, the enjoyment is more than guaranteed, but when one travels with the whole family, the experience is difficult to beat. Watching your children moving around in a new environment like Africa with total ease, enjoying every single harvest as if it was their very first, and witnessing how they put their hand on such amazing animals is something difficult to express with words. During their 6 days of safari, Juanjo and the boys had a wonderful time. As we closely followed the course of their safari from Spain, it was an absolute pleasure to receive the pictures at the end of the day. Smiley faces were the best summary of their days in Africa.

Done with hunting? Lets explore Namibia!

One of the main ideas that Juanjo had when he first contacted us was to spend a few days exploring the different parts of Namibia once the hunting safari had been concluded. Namibia offers many different activities, being the perfect place to combine a bit of hunting with some amazing tourism to ensure that everybody in the groups gets the best of their time.

Everything had been arranged so that a driver -and guide- would fetch them at the hunting lodge. They were transferred to Mount Etjo Safari Lodge, a private game reserve where they spent that afternoon and the following morning doing a couple of game drives watching elephants, rhinos, and plenty of plains game.

Next step was to visit Swakopmund, a small but beautiful city located in the coast, characterized by its infinite beaches. The plan was to spend the first day fishing sharks from the beach whereas on the second day, they would go out to navigate searching for dolphins and sea lions in the morning and in the afternoon, we planned a 4x4 trip in the beautiful Sandwich Harbour. The fishing is something that we always recommend. The setting itself is unbelievable, and while some members of the group are concentrated on the fishing, a delicious picnic lunch is served on the beach. The boys were able to catch a few nice fish and in the last minute, were lucky to get a small shark which was released after taking a few pictures.

To end up what it was an outstanding family trip, the Zuñiga family visited Sossusvlei Lodge, located in a unique place surrounded by one of the wildest and most beautiful places in the world. Not only the landscape but the camp, the food and the sunsets were something that they will never forget! Thank you Juanjo and family for making this possible!

Get moving and join us in Namibia!

There is no doubt that Namibia is an exceptional destination with plenty of possibilities that allows us to adapt everything so that everybody in the group enjoys the time there, including those who are not that much into hunting. We are flexible and have developed enough capacity throughout the years to ensure that things run smoothly.

With regards to covid, the restrictions in Namibia at the moment are almost inexistent. All you need to do is prove a negative PCR test 72 hours before arrival and according to conversations, in a few weeks’ time, it is expected that tourists will be allowed in by simply showing that they have been fully vaccinated.

Therefore, if you are thinking about hunting in Namibia, either if you plan to go by yourself or with your family and friends, contact us. We have the right plans for you!

Wishing you all a happy hunting and looking forward to meeting you soon.
